What You Need to Know about ISBN (International Standard Book Number):

What is an ISBN?
The International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is a 13-digit number that uniquely identifies books and book-like products published internationally.

What is the purpose of an ISBN?
The purpose of the ISBN is to establish and identify one title or edition of a title from one specific publisher and is unique to that edition, allowing for more efficient marketing of products by booksellers, libraries, universities, wholesalers, and distributors.

You can purchase an ISBN.

When you purchase an ISBN you can use that number at various retail distributors for the same format of the book.  Note – if you have different formats of your book (ex. eBook, audio, etc) each format will also need their own ISBN. We provide ISBN’s at comparable rates.

Additional Benefits of PAID ISBN.

ISBN’s are used world-wide as a unique identifier for books.  They are used to simplify distribution and purchase of books throughout the global supply chain.

Without an ISBN, you will not be found in most book stores, either online or down the street from your house.  Buying an ISBN is your first step to ensure that your book is not lost in the wilderness.

Buying your ISBN and registering your titles on My Identifiers, ensures information about your book will be stored in Books in Print database.  This opens up a world of possibilities that your book is listed with many retailers, libraries, Bowker Books In Print, Bookwire, as well as online services like Google Books, Apple’s iBooks, Chegg and the New York Times.

Over 100 million people access this data when searching for books, and it all starts with buying an ISBN.

What You Need to Know about Copyright:

What is Copyright?

Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (under U.S. copyright law).  Your self-published work is protected as soon as you put the pen to paper. Copyright is based on “original works of authorship,” and is not dependent on any formal agreement with a book publisher company, although registration with the U.S. Copyright Office is beneficial.

What is Copyright Registration?

Copyright Registration allows you, as a self-published author, a higher level of security and confidence when it comes to protecting your work. Registering with the U.S. Copyright Office creates a public record of authorship. Even though you are protected as soon as you start writing, you’ll have to register your works with the Copyright Office to be officially recognized as the copyright holder in a court of law.

We at Ignite Publishing, a self-publishing company, understand the tremendous amount of work you’ve put into your book and ensure that you retain all rights to your book. We place your name right next to the copyright symbol [©] on the copyright page of your published book.

Ignite Publishing provides authors the ability to register a book with the U.S. Copyright Office at an additional fee of $79 (plus a registration fee of $35 – $55):

  • Ignite Publishing will complete all the necessary forms and send a copy of your book for cataloging to the U.S. Copyright Office. After the government has processed your application, the copyright registration is sent directly to you. Please Note: receipt of registration is based on the U.S. Copyright Office processing time.
  • Ignite Publishing authors can also choose to have a Library of Congress Control Number(LCCN) assigned to their work. The LCCN is assigned during the publishing process and will be included on the copyright page of your book. We will complete all the paperwork required by Library of Congress.
