Will You Keep Control of Your Book after you have your book published by a self-publishing company?

This is a question you need to know the answer to before signing a contract with a self-publishing company.

Unfortunately, we were contacted by someone who apparently did not keep control of their book. This author could not receive their publishing account information from their self-publishing company.

What does this mean?

Well, the self-publishing company refused to relinquish the CreateSpace login account information to the author, which in turn left the author without their book being published.

The self-publishing company wanted the author to pay for the printed books, but unless this was agreed upon in the contract between the self-publishing company and the author, the author should have had full rights to their book as well as pay wholesale cost through CreateSpace.

FYI ~ CreateSpace is Amazon’s self-publishing platform publishing companies use to publish their authors’ books.

The self-publishing company should not keep control of your book unless you, as the author, have agreed to this in your contract.
